Ahmedabad: The financial year 2012-13 stayed grounded for the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport as it was shunned by the domestic fliers. From April 1, 2012 to February 28, 2013 there has been a drop of 16.2% in the domestic traffic as compared to the corresponding year.
In the 11 months of the financial year 2012-13, there were about 6 lakh less passengers using the services of Ahmedabad airport. From the last year April 1, there were only 30.69 lakh travelers who travelled by air form Ahmedabad as against 36.64 lakh in the 11 months in 2011-12.
The drop of 16.2% was the largest drop in the entire country when it comes to the international airports. The data of Airport Authority of India (AAI) reveals that in the month of February 2013 there was a drop of about 12.2% as compared to February 2012. In February 2013, there were 2.95 lakh travelers against 3.36 lakh in February 2012 at the Ahmedabad airport. This was the second biggest drop in the country among the international airports after Srinagar.
