Death at airport: probe ordered

Kozhikode: Union Minister for Civil Aviation K.C. Venugopal has ordered an inquiry into the circumstances in which a passenger booked for journey to Muscat from the Calicut international airport by an Air India Express collapsed and died at the airport before he could be given medical help.
The Minister has also ordered a probe to find out how cracks had developed in the runway of the airport.
The Minister has asked Chairman of Air India Rohit Nanda to submit a report on the incident that led to death of the passenger Hamsakutty, a native of Pappinissery, on May 22. . He was booked by Air India Express IX337 flight to Muscat.
The probe was ordered in response to reports in the media alleging that the authorities had failed to arrange timely medical aid to the passenger.
The Minister directed the Air India chairman to take punitive action against the officials concerned if there was any lapse in providing medical help to the passenger.
