Dhoni had left his Air India job at Gurunath Meiyappan’s insistence

Chennai: Gurunath Meiyappan might be the name nobody would like to be associated with as the Chennai Super Kings boss is embroiled in a huge IPL spot-fixing scandal. But, the fact is that he is one of the most important people as far CSK’s success in the IPL is concerned as he was the person who persuaded Mahendra Singh Dhoni to be  the captain of the team.
During the inception of the IPL, Gurunath had met Dhoni and persuade him to shun the Air India job and become the captain of the newly-formed Chennai Super Kings. Riding high on confidence after inaugural T-20 World Cup, Dhoni accepted the offer.
After becoming the captain, MS Dhoni bonded with the team so much that he captained it to 5 finals of the IPL out of total six. He also won two editions of the IPL.
