House panel disapproves of Aviation Ministry’s stand on slot allocation

New Delhi: The Parliamentary Committee on Public Undertakings (COPU) has expressed its disapproval of the stand taken by the Civil Aviation Ministry on route and slot allocations to Air India and private airlines.
A slot is defined as the scheduled time of arrival or departure made available to an airline to operate regular flights.
The Committee has recommended that the Ministry conduct a ‘transparent review of the entire route and slot allocations, in the domestic and international sectors and effect necessary changes to ensure that Air India is not put at any disadvantage.’
The report adds that initially, in June 2011, the Ministry had informed the Committee that an ‘analysis’ as desired by it with all its ramifications, had been done and the review of slot allocations would be undertaken shortly.
