Margao: Chief minister Manohar Parrikar on Thursday said he would raise the issue of Mopa with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and offer Mopa to the Indian Navy in exchange for Dabolim.
Trying to assuage the feelings of anti-Mopa activists, Parrikar said the appointment with the prime minister was yet to be fixed but he would bring up the issue and propose this exchange where Dabolim would be retained as a civilian airport and the Navy could take over the Mopa site. He didn't elaborate on the proposal.
The manner in which Parrikar made this statement was similar to when he had suggested earlier this month that if the Union defence minister A K Antony could get the Navy to shift from Dabolim he would give Mopa land to the Navy for free.
