Don’t hide incidents, only 30 take-offs per hour

Mumbai: Alarmed by the way many leading airlines cut corners in maintaining take-off and landing schedules and not notify it of untoward incidents, the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued stringent guidelines on mitigating delays and swifter investigations.
While the regulatory body allows a maximum of 30 to take off in an hour is 30, the city airport is moving towards achieving 48 take-offs and landings per hour. "We want departure slots to be distributed evenly within an hour with not more than five departure slots in 10 minutes and total of 30 per hour," said Arun Mishra, director general, DGCA.
"Of these 30 slots, at least 4 per hour will be kept aside to cater to nonscheduled, VIP or military operations," he added. Mishra also said that aircraft must contact the airport's surface movement control for pushback and start up 15 minutes prior to time of departure. "This clearance will be strictly valid for just 5 minutes and any aircraft not adhering to it will lineup only when a new slot is available," he said. According to DGCA data, a comparison of all the metro airports shows that the best on-time performance was achieved by Indigo at 95.6 per cent, GoAir at 95.1 per cent, Jet Airways (including Jet Lite) at 93.4 per cent, Air India at 90.9 per cent and Spicejet at 86.2 per cent.
