Top officials to fly in seaplane

Thiruvananthapuram: The anger of the fisherfolk might have made prospective seaplane operators wary but the state government has reassured them by promising a minimum assured business. Investors have been told that all top bureaucrats who are eligible to fly for official purposes within the state would regularly use the seaplane service.
“The decision has already been taken by the cabinet,” said tourism secretary Suman Billa. Officials eligible to fly within the state include senior IAS officials at the level of additional secretaries and above, IPS officials at the level of SPs and above and Indian Forest Service officials at the level of chief forest conservators and above. Managing directors of PSUs too can avail of the facility.
Captain K R Sasikumar of Kairali Aviation, the first company to start operations, termed the decision “proactive.”  “It is definitely a big confidence booster for an investor.” Negotiations were currently on with the government to fix the special fare structure, he said.
