Silchar: At a time when the rail and road connections in Barak Valley are in pathetic state for last two decades with deterioration at regular intervals, the air services, somehow, evoke mere optimism among the people of this ill-fated valley.
However, an assessment of the current state of affairs reveals that this optimism is a mere fallacy. There are innumerable problems surrounding the aviation sector with no immediate solution available.
Expressing severe concerns on the plight of the passengers travelling from Silchar to other parts of the country, a section of the leading citizens of the city formed Air Passenger Association, a forum to voice their demands of consistent air service in this land-locked territory at feasible fare. The 11-member association is headed by Haran Dey and Sadhan Purakystha is its general secretary.
Members of the association have scripted a memorandum to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh through the deputy commissioner of Cachar underscoring their demands of immediate improvement of flight services in Silchar.
