One hurt in accident at baggage ramp in airport

Chennai: Driver of a battery-operated tug which is used to pull baggage into basement of new domestic terminal was injured in an accident on the slanting ramp on Wednesday.
The accident happened after Anand, 34, the driver, parked the tug on the ramp and was standing on the rear of the vehicle when it rolled down and hit him.
Sources said the driver suffered a fracture to his leg when he attempted to stop it. A rod behind it hit his leg.
However, airport officials said it was a minor accident and the work was not seriously injured. The tug belonged to a private ground handler at the new domestic terminal.
Airport officials said the staff who were engaged to operate the tugs were told not to stop the machine in the middle of the slanting ramp that leads into the basement baggage handling area of the new building.
