Kozhikode: The customs wing at Karipur Airport is set to get more teeth in its fight against smugglers. From advanced x-ray units to sniffer dogs and narcotics detection kits, the department is gearing up for a major tech upgrade to combat smuggling through Malabar's air gateway. According to customs sources, the central board of excise and customs has okayed the proposal to modernize facilities at the airport customs wing.
Among proposals that are to be implemented at the airport include installation of new door frame detectors, non-ferrous metal detectors and narcotics kits to foil smuggling of drugs through the airport.
