B K Birla Group's Dakota aircraft goes under the hammer

Indore: A 1946 Dakota aircraft, owned by B K Birla Group, went under the hammer on Tuesday. Sixteen firms from across the country took part in the bidding which was held at office of official liquidator of Madhya Pradesh high court. The office falls under union ministry of corporate affairs.
The auction was held after instructions by high court to disburse the due salary of former employees of Bharat Commerce & Industry. The group-owned firm was shut down in 2000.
The aircraft was bagged by Kolkata-based firm, Kedia group, said a source, adding that the company is into aviation education and will use the aircraft to teach students. The aircraft is currently lying unused at Nagda. The total amount collected after the auction of assets, including aircraft, stands at Rs 1.10 crore, added the source. Some of the other groups that took part in the bidding for aircraft include Maa Gomti (Indore), Lucky Traders (Mumbai), Sai Nath (Bhavnagar) and Himalaya (Gaziabad).
