Cantonment CEO seeks cleaner airport

Chennai: Sanitation and hygiene at  ‘world-class’ Chennai airport are below par, said St Thomas Mount Cantonment Board CEO S. Prabhakaran, under whose jurisdiction the airport falls.
The new CEO said at his maiden press conference here on Monday that clogged drains and uncollected waste were marring the restaurants and coffee shops at the airport.
“I was annoyed by the poor maintenance. A coffee costs `80, but a customer cannot have it in a relaxed manner as the stink hits you. There is a lot of improvement required,” he said. The Cantonment health officials have been instructed to follow the issue and ensure better sanitation. Close to 40,000 people reside in the Cantonment area and sanitation has to be enhanced to prevent epidemics.
