Company clarifies stand on sacking of trolley workers in city airport

Thiruvananthapuram: A day ahead of the protests planned by trolley workers of Thiruvananthapuram International Airport against the termination of service of some of them, the private company which hired the workers has justified its action saying that the workers were removed owing to fall in revenue and denied collecting huge security deposits from them.
“The trolley workers and the company are engaged in a revenue contract. As per the three-year contract, which is due to expire in a few months, workers are paid salaries from the revenue generated from the advertisements on trolleys. When there was a fall in revenue, we had to effect job cuts,” Blue Sky Port Services Pvt Ltd Managing Director Jude Sajith D’Cruz said.
INTUC-affiliated Kerala Civil Aviation Workers’ Congress (KCAWC) had the other day told a press meet that a section of trolley workers affiliated to the organisation were removed from service for engaging in trade union activities and that their salary and Provident Fund were long overdue.
