Drugs worth Rs 15cr seized at airport

Kolkata: Three persons transiting through Kolkata airport were arrested with 45 kg of stimulant drug ephedrine and blood vessel decongestion drug pseudoephedrine in their baggage. The drugs are processed to make 'party' or 'designer' drugs like methamphetamine or meth that are in huge demand in India as well as South-East Asia.
The 4 lakh tablets were being carried in 18 packets of 2.5 kg each and their value is pegged at Rs 15 crore.

The three passengers - Robert Laltharula, Thong Lion Sanga and Vanchun Gonaula - arrived by Air India's flight from Delhi around 9.30am on Friday and were to board the AI flight to Aizwal. When the luggage passed through the x-ray machine, security officials became suspicious and searched the bags to find the tablets. Though the trio claimed the drugs were bonafide, an Air India official contacted a CISF officer and sought help to detain the trio.
