Kolkata gets additional flight to Yangon

Kolkata: Tourist traffic between Myanmar and Eastern India is expected to get a major boost with the air connectivity between Kolkata and Myanmar's capital city of Yangon increased to thrice a week effective July 17.
National carrier Air India has announced that the airlines will now operate flights on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from Kolkata and return after a ground time of 45 minutes. It may be mentioned that the Indian Chamber of Commerce has been representing to the Central Government the urgent need for improvement of air connectivity with Myanmar and India from a long time.
The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) said during a meeting in New Delhi during June, it had made representation to Union Minister of Civil Aviation for introducing additional flight on Wednesday between Yangon and Kolkata.
Aviation Minister Ajit Singh had also given an assurance to look into the matter without any further delay.
