Kolkata: With the Air Force allowing night flights to land in Bagdogra, the state government is planning to improve air link between Bagdogra and other northeast states.
Transport minister Madan Mitra on Thursday met officials of several airlines to discuss the matter and is keen on starting flights to Cooch Behar, Kathmandu, Paro and Sikkim.
"We are also considering air links with the middle-east and Bangkok and the state government has already written to the external affairs ministry about it," Mitra said.
Though some airlines have expressed interest, they are looking for subsidy as initially there might not be enough passengers. To begin with, the airlines officials plan to introduce small aircraft to check the passenger flow particularly to Paro, Kathmandu and places in the northeast.
