Bond system to stop flight of ATC staff

Mumbai: The Indian airports authority has decided to recover costs of recruitment and training from air traffic controllers who quit their job in three years, a move aimed at stemming an exodus of key staff.
In the past one year, around 200 air traffic controllers have resigned across the country, disrupting flight management operations. In Mumbai, at least 10 controllers have quit.
From now, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) will make recruits sign a bond, which will require them to pay Rs 5 lakh if they quit after only a year in service. Those who move to new jobs after two and three years will have to pay Rs 3 lakh and Rs 4 lakh, respectively.
Most of the staff members who left in the past year have joined banks as managers or probationary officers, jobs that pay more. Many have also taken up government posts after clearing the Indian Administrative Service exam.
