CAG slams Pawan Hans for ordering 20 chopper doors when 10 were needed

New Delhi: The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has pulled up Pawan Hans, a joint venture between the government and ONGC, for ordering double the number of rear sliding doors for its choppers than what was required from Vectra Aviation, part of the controversial Vectra group.
Vectra is being probed by the CBI after former Army chief General V K Singh alleged that he was offered a bribe of Rs 14 crore on behalf of the company for clearing its sub-standard trucks.
Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd placed an order in November 2007 with Vectra Aviation, an authorized distributor of Eurocopter, for supply of 10 rear left sliding doors of Dauphin N helicopters for a value of Rs 2.45 crore.
But before the first consignment could be delivered, Pawan Hans "placed another order in February 2008 with Vectra Aviation for supply of 10 similar rear left sliding doors of Dauphin N helicopters for a value of Rs 2.40 crore".
