Pawan Hans Stands Exposed For Using Illegal Helipads

New Delhi: People flying in helicopters of Pawan Hans are putting there lives to serious. This holds true for helicopter rides of this company to Arunachal Pradesh, Katra, Phata (Kedarnath), Amarnath, Port Blair, Koraput, Gadchiroli, Gangtok and Patna as helipads at these places are unlicensed and are not approved by the directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA), a report tabled in Parliament on Thursday stated.
A Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report says that no airfield or helipad in Arunachal Pradesh was approved by the DGCA, along with the other places.
Citing a ministry of civil aviation inquiry after an accident in Tawang on April 19, 2011, in which 17 people were killed when a Pawan Hans chopper crashed, the report says it was the operator’s responsibility that its helicopters land at approved helipads.
The inquiry stated that “no airfield/helipad in Arunachal Pradesh was licenced or approved.” The CAG report says, it was found that as on June 30, 2012, the company was operating helicopters from unlicensed airfields/helipads at Gangtok, Katra, Phata (Kedarnath), Amarnath, Port Blair, Patna, Koraput and Gadchiroli without DGCA’s approval.
