Cracks widen in Chennai airport upkeep

Chennai: Despite huge sound effects and AC, false roofing at cinema theatres have been standing firm for ages, but Chennai airport has witnessed three false ceiling collapses in the last three months. While the Airports Authority of India (AAI) gives some reason or the other for the mishaps, air passengers are agitated at the turn of events in the city airport.
“It is disgraceful that such things are happening. They attribute some reason, often, technical reasons. Does that mean they have built the terminal without technical advice? You cannot spend more than Rs 2000 crore without technical knowledge,” said Air Passengers’ Association of India (APAI) president D. Sudhakara Reddy.
Noting that the APAI is going to take up the issue seriously, Reddy said that he would write to AAI chairman V.P. Agrawal on Wednesday about the recent mishaps at the city airport.
