DGCA begins probe into chopper crash landing

Ahmedabad: The Director General of Civil Aviation has begun an investigation in the crash landing of a four-seater helicopter at Gomtipur on August 14. Air Traffic Control submitted their report on the incident to the DGCA recently.
The small helicopter, carrying spiritual leader Asaram Bapu's son Narayan Sai, made an emergency landing at Chartoda graveyard in Gomtipur after its tail rotor stopped working. A helicopter crash-landing in the middle of the crowded city area is unprecedented.
Air safety officials from DGCA visited Ahmedabad and carried out preliminary investigations for 4 or 5 days. According to ATC's report, the pilot - 41 year-old Deepak Gupta - was advised to not to fly in the rough weather. "It was a small chopper and was caught in the clouds which caused excessive vibration," said an ATC official.
