'Flyers, airline employees get same security scan'

Ahmedabad: Those wishing to become airline employees have to go through police verification and be approved by the city police commissioner before getting to work at the airport. When hiring a person, all airlines have to carry out his or her complete background check.
Once the verification is over, the airlines apply for an employee's gate pass to the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). "Once we get the application for a gate pass, we scrutinize the details and then accordingly provide the pass," said A K Chaturvedi, deputy commissioner of security, BCAS.
"Every employee is issued a different pass depending on the work area. The pass indicates which areas in the airport are accessible and which are out of bounds for the employee," said Chaturvedi. The BCAS ensures that the persons implementing security controls are appropriately trained and are competent to perform their duties.
