Juhu-Ahmednagar seaplane services may take off in September

Mumbai:  Starting next month, Mumbai and Mula dam in Ahmednagar is expected to be connected by a seaplane service provided the proposal gets the nod from the irrigation department, the Bombay Port Trust and defence ministry.
The six-seater seaplane will take off from Juhu airport and land at Mula dam, which is close to the pilgrims spots of Shirdi, Shani Shingnapur and Meherabad, said Siddharth Verma, director, Mumbai-based Maharashtra Maritime Energy Heli Air Services Pvt Ltd (MEHAIR).
The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) and MEHAIR, which had signed a memorandum of understanding to start seaplane services in Mumbai, Pune and Nashik, will roll out the first seaplane in September, said sources.
The firm will also launch a nine-seater seaplane service connecting Pune's Varasgaon dam with Mula dam in October. It will also connect Aamby Valley with Shirdi. "The second seaplane will take off from the Varasgaon dam in Pune and land in the Mula dam in Ahmednagar, connecting Pune to Shirdi, Shani Shingnapur and Meherabad," he said.
But MTDC officials said that of the 13 permissions required for the project to take off, three still remain: those from the irrigation department, the Bombay Port Trust and defence ministry.
