Nagpur airport runway recarpeting post-rains

Nagpur: The tender process for allotting the work for recarpeting the runway of city's Dr BabasahebAmbedkar International Airport is complete and the work is scheduled to begin after the monsoons. The work order was issued on June 21 in Delhi and its papers came to Nagpur last week, sources said.
MIHAN India Limited (MIL), which is responsible for the airport operations, had approached the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the work of recarpeting the runway as it was AAI that had the expertise. Sources said earlier the recarpeting of apron area, which was done by MIL, was not to AAI's satisfaction and that is why, this time, they decided to ask AAI to do the work.
"The tender has been given to Messrs Gurubakshani, a Nagpur-based firm. He had quoted a price of Rs 22.1 crore when our estimated cost was between Rs 25-26 crore," said a senior airport official. He further said that the fact that the company was from the city itself might have helped it quote such a low cost.
