Seaplane panel to make site visits, present report after Onam

The committee constituted by the state government to study the seaplane's impact on marine ecology held its first meeting here on Tuesday. Members of the committee have decided to make site visits in the coming weeks and engage in dialogue with local inland fishermen who are up in arms against the shrinking fishing grounds.
Tuesday's meeting was attended by representatives from CMFRI, the vice-chancellor of the Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies and other members. "We discussed various aspects raised by the fishermen unions and we hope to present the report within the next month, just after Onam," said Anil Kumar, director of Kerala Tourism Infrastructure Ltd.
Some issues discussed at the meeting were the daily routine of the fishermen and the effect of seaplanes on their livelihood. There are an estimated 2,000 fishermen who operate near waterdromes demarcated for the landing of seaplanes in various districts of the state.
