Airports Authority Employees' Union employees oppose airport privatization

Guwahati: Airports Authority Employees' Union (AAEU) is on the path of agitation opposing privatization of the LGBI Airport. The agitation, which was started by the activists of the northeastern region of the union on September 9, is likely to affect the functioning of the airport if the government does not come into a negotiation with the employees. The staff have threatened to continue the agitation till October end or even further if their demand is not met.
The union is in touch with leading organizations of the state like All Assam Students' Union, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad to intensify its stir against privatization of the airport.
Pabitra Das, regional secretary of the AAEU's northeastern regional headquarters, said handing over the LGBI Airport to a private party is a betrayal to the peasants and the residents who vacated their lands for the interest of the nation while the airport was built.
