New Delhi: Patna airport may be allowed to operate only small aircraft that generally carry up to 80 passengers, rather than Airbus and Boeing aircraft that can carry over 120 passengers.
The Directorate-General of Civil Aviation has warned the State Government that unless remedial measures are taken to upgrade flight safety at the airport, the airline watchdog may be forced to allow only small aircraft to operate to Patna.
Addressing the State Civil Aviation Ministers conference, K. N. Shrivastava, Secretary, Civil Aviation, said a team from the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) during a recent visit, had raised concerns that Patna airport has not yet been given a licence by the DGCA even though continues to be in operation.
Every airport in the country is allowed to function only after it gets a licence from the DGCA, which inspects airports and looks at various aspects relating to operations, including safety.
