Major gold haul at Trichy international airport

Trichy: In a major gold haul at Trichy international airport, the customs officials seized gold bars weighing 10.6kg in two consecutive days from air passengers. Seven persons have been arrested in this connection till Tuesday.
The regular check of the passengers at the airport on Sunday and Monday revealed the gold smuggling from other countries. The three consecutive gold haul worth Rs3.2 crore in two days has taken everyone by surprise. The first incident was reported in the afternoon on Sunday, when the customs officials checked the baggage of the passengers who arrived at the airport by a Srilankan Airlines flight. The officials found unaccounted gold weighing 1.8 kg in the baggage of three passengers - Jameel Ahamed, Mohammed Samsad Ali, Abdul Hameed, residents of SP Pattinam in Ramanathapuram district.
