Man held at airport with gold worth Rs 27 lakh in innerwear

Mumbai: The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) arrested a passenger at the airport for attempting to smuggle in gold worth Rs 27.5 lakh early on Tuesday. The passenger had arrived from Bangkok with a 1-kilogram gold bar in his underpants.
It was the third case of gold seizure at the airport in four days.
AIU officials acted on specific intelligence and nabbed the passenger, Bangalore resident Mubarak Hussain, before he could leave the airport through the customs' green channel after arrival at 1 am on an Air India flight.
"On interrogation, the passenger said he was sent to Bangkok four days ago by his cousin and was given the gold by his cousin's friends," an AIU official said.
