Mysore airport expansion could be hit

Mysore: The workable Mysore Airport's expansion plans are grounded for now.
While the Union road transport and highways minister Oscar Fernandes on Monday cold-shouldered the concerns of the stakeholders in the development of tourist hub who are seeking increased air connectivity as an engine for growth, the minister indicated that the realignment of a stretch of National Highway 212 connecting Mysore to Nanjangud could not happen anytime soon. Simply put, the airport expansion plans have hit air pocket given that the realignment is the prerequisite for the extension of the runway.
The minister said upgradation of NH 212 will start soon. When asked how about the realignment of the stretch between Mysore and Kadakola near the temple town, Fernandes said he will look into it. When pointed out that it is imperative for the expansion of the airport, he said: "Now that I'm here I'll have a look and it and study. I'll take necessary action to correct things."
