Mumbai: Navi Mumbai international airport project affected persons (PAPs) are opposed to seek rehabilitation package as per the provisions of The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill, 2012 passed by the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday night. As per the provisions of the bill, PAPs are entitled to get cash compensation of Rs 40 lakh per acre but PAPs are not keen for cash for cash compensation instead insisting on the allocation of developed land on net basis. PAPs are holding crucial meeting on Friday with the management of City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) which is the nodal agency for the airport project.
The meeting comes close on the heels of Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan's announcement that the government was in favour of land for land compensation and not for cash for cash one. Chavan admitted that the Ciddco and PAPs have yet to arrive at the agreement for the allocation of 22.5% developed land for the acquisition of 291 hectare. Chavan went on the add that airport project may not come if the land is not acquired.
