New radar at Trivandrum Airport from Sept 17

Thiruvananthapuram: The monopulse secondary surveillance radar (MSSR) will be commissioned at the International Airport in Thiruvananthapuram by minister of state for civil aviation KC Venugopal on September 17.
"Trivandrum International Airport is an all-weather airport and the new radar will join the existing tracking devices and allow the air traffic controllers to execute their jobs in a safe and controlled manner. I will also be inaugurating Cochin International Airport's first radar on Sept 13. The combined feed from the two systems will secure the air space in the region," said Venugopal.
The critical function of fixing the antennas of the airport surveillance radar and the monopulse secondary surveillance radar at Trivandrum International Airport took place on July 5, and its commissioning is well within the expected time-frame, informed Trivandrum airport director V N Chandran.
