Privatisation of airports: CIAL to bid for operations

Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) has decided, as part of its efforts to expand business, to enter the fray for airport operations when they come up for privatisation.
CIAL chairman and managing director V. J. Kurien has been entrusted with the task of preparing the ground for CIAL to compete for bagging airport operations elsewhere in the country.
A statement issued by the Public Relations Department here said the 19th annual general meeting of shareholders on Friday deferred its plans for a rights issue. It would take into consideration the opinion of all shareholders before taking a decision.
An earlier decision by the CIAL to issue shares at 1:1 ratio to minority shareholders came under fire from public sector shareholders of the airport operator. Bharat Petroleum Corporation, Housing and Urban Development Corporation and Air India are among the public sector shareholders in CIAL.
