Underpass proposed as solution to allow Mysore airport expansion

Mysore: After indications that the Centre is not keen on developing the Mysore Airport by realigning a stretch of National Highway 212 connecting Mysore to Nanjangud, senior engineers and a city-based NGO are proposing the construction of an underpass near the airport as a solution.
This comes amid KIADB seeking to drop the process of land acquisition to realign NH 212 citing high cost for compensation as the reason. Union minister for transport and highways Oscar Fernandes had indicated that airport expansion could wait and upgradation of NH 212 was his primary focus. The realignment is crucial for airport expansion given that the proposed runway cuts across NH 212.
A bunch of senior engineers attached to the Institution of Engineers on Friday surveyed the area near Mandkalli where the airport is located. The engineers suggested that instead of realignment of NH-212 via Hosahundi for the proposed four-lane Mysore-Nanjangud road, the government could construct an underpass from Dalvoy Lake to Undabatti Lake. This option is cost effective, saves time and requires lesser land too, they said.
