2 BSNL towers near airport sans blinkers

If you thought the helicopter crash in Murbad on Sunday which killed five would wake authorities up to the danger, think again.
The aircraft warning lights atop not one, but two BSNL towers in Kalyan and Dombivli, less than 50km away from the crash site, have not been working for eight months. While the one in Kalyan is 158m tall, the Dombivli one stands at a height of 142m.
“The crash on Sunday took place in an uninhabited forest area, which is why it led to the deaths of only those aboard. I shudder to think how this would play out in the event of a crash in the thickly-populated Kala Talao neighbourhood in Kalyan or MIDC in Dombivli,” said local activist Baldev Singh, who has been repeatedly raising this issue with local BSNL authorities as well as civic officials.
