Malappuram: As the dispute between Emirates airlines authorities and emigration department, over the definition of 'deportees to be carried in flight' continues, the return of two Nigerian citizens, who were jailed for two years in connection with an online fraud case here and later acquitted by high court one year ago, gets delayed indefinitely. Johnson Ulonso and Michel Obiorah, both hailing from Nigeria, were sentenced for five years imprisonment by Manjeri sessions court in 2011. But in 2012, the high court acquitted them. But they were put back in prison, as they have no valid documents to travel to Nigeria. After the intervention of various human rights organizations, the emigration department recently issued them the required documents.
Following this , the foreign regional registration office (FRO), Kozhikode had issued visa and Jonnson and Michael purchased tickets from Emirates airlines to travel to Nigeria But the airlines authorities suspended the tickets after they boarded the flight at Karippur airport last Friday and deplaned them saying they were 'deportees'. It was after completing all the formalities of emigration clearance the two Nigerians boarded the flight.
