E-verification of passports starts at Lohegaon airport

Pune: The authorities manning the immigration check point (ICP) at the Lohegaon airport have started using an electronic system to verify documents from Friday.
The three machines were installed at the ICP on Thursday, a senior police officer said. When contacted, the immigration officer refused to comment.
On Thursday, TOI had reported that police investigations had revealed that the two Myanmar nationals who used fake passports to go to Sharjah recently chose to fly out of Lohegaon airport because it did not have an electronic system to verify documents. The authorities manning the ICP had been clearing passports manually.
Police said the passports seized from the two men had been prepared to perfection. They managed to clear the ICP without the authorities even remotely suspecting that the documents could be fake.
