Ahmedabad: The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, Ahmedabad, became the first airport in the country on Tuesday to offer a number of services to make travel hassle-free, of course for a fee.
India’s first independent airport connect and passenger facilitation service was launched today.
The Ahmedabad airport is among those being considered for privatisation.
In the next 6 to 18 months, the facilitation services are expected to become operational at many airports across India, including Mumbai, New Delhi, Lucknow, Aurangabad, Bangalore, Coimbatore and Guwahati, said Ashish Thesia, Director, Sales and Marketing, Fly Tagged Pvt Ltd, a service providing venture of ground handling company Janus Aviation Pvt Ltd, which is active mainly in the North-Eastern states of India.
“We launched the pilot project at Ahmedabad on June 1, 2013, and found responses from over 1,000 passengers encouraging,” he told Business Line here. Currently, Janus Aviation, which had tied up with the Airports Authority of India, is in talks with various airport officials for expansion of its services, he said.
