Lack of electronic clearance system hits exporters at Trichy airport

Trichy: While cargo export from the Trichy international airport is increasing at 40% per annum, the absence of electronic data interchange (EDI) facility at the airport has inconvenienced the exporters in the region. Sans EDI, the exporters from southern districts have to book their cargo at the Chennai Customs. After the customs' nod, the cargo has to be ferried back to Trichy by road or airlines to be exported to their destination.
An EDI service enables fast and secure communication between airports and their business partners as well as passengers.
Currently, the exporters in the southern region have to put up with cumbersome procedure without the EDI facility. After getting clearance from Chennai customs, they have to wait for one week for due export incentives to be credited to their bank accounts.
