Porvorim: The opposition benches on Wednesday cornered the BJP-led government over the proposed Mopa airport with Fatorda independent MLA Vijai Sardesai alleging that the state government had acquired land at Mopa in haste and had even paid compensation to the wrong persons.
Raising the issue in a starred question during question hour on the first day of the winter assembly session, Sardesai also questioned why the environment impact assessment (EIA) study had not been done before the land acquisition.
He questioned what had happened to the government's promise of inviting global tenders for the airport, and demanded to know whether the government had inquired into the allegation made by the Mopa Vimanthal Piddit Xetkari Samiti that ownership of the acquired land was fraudulently changed.
