Russian charter of tourists is first to arrive

Dabolim: Goa received its first charter-load of tourists from Russia on Sunday morning, marking an early start to the charter-tourist season.
The 232 guests, mostly couples and families, arrived on a Boeing 757 belonging to charter company Anex, a new-entrant to Goa, and a company touted to bring in 'quality tourists', as they fly in passengers from across Russia, and not just Moscow.
Tour operators in Goa expect around 1,600 charter flights ferrying tourists from across Europe this year; as compared to 1,400 charters that were welcomed in the last tourist season.
"Anex is a new charter company, with a pretty large client base across Russia. They have their own aircraft and will be operating nine flights per week, starting from October 24," said Rohit Walter, president of the Travel Corporation of India, who also heads Thomas Cook's Charter division.
