Kerala CM in new storm after Pinarayi Vijayan links him with smuggler Fayaz

Kochi: The gold smuggling case is getting murkier as CPI(M) state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan alleged on Sunday that the controversial smuggler T.K. Fayaz had met Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on his way from Vadakara to Kozhikode when he was the opposition leader and held talks in his car for more than 45 minutes. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had not yet reacted to the allegation levelled against him by the CPI(M) leader.
The smuggler's political connections in Kerala is out in the open as phone records revealed that he was in touch with Chandy's private secretary R.K. Balakrishnan and KPCC general secretary S. Rajasekharan. There are also allegations that Fayaz also acted as a host to CM during one of his visits to Dubai. CPI(M) state secretary's allegations came at a time when the party itself is in trouble as CCTV visuals of Fayaz visiting CPI(M) local leaders in Kannur Central Jail surfaced some days ago. The local leaders were arrested in connection with the murder of CPI(M) dissident T.P. Chandrasekharan in May 2012 and are facing trial. Fayaz was masquerading as an Arab when he visited the leaders in jail and was wearing Arab costumes. The investigation agency had also mentioned the names of some Muslim league and BJP leaders who were in touch with the gold smuggler.
