Seaplane project likely to remain grounded

Thiruvananthapuram: Even after the onset of the tourism season, the fate of the much-hyped seaplane service in the state remains uncertain. The government had projected the seaplane as a major tourist attraction.
While the weather is still not conducive for operating seaplanes  owing to the rains, an expert committee appointed to look into the concerns expressed by fishermen community has not yet given its final report.  Kairali Aviation, which initiated the maiden service on June 2, is now spending Rs. 10 lakh every month for maintaining the aircraft and paying wages to the pilot and other staff.
Sources said that it would take at least two more weeks for the expert committee to submit its report. The government is likely to take a decision on resuming the service only after evaluating the committee report. Hence it may take at least a month for any decision on the matter.
