Airport-affected people seek Opposition's support

Panvel: Dismissing reports that appeared in a section of the media, project-affected persons (PAPs) from six villages, who are opposed to the state government’s ‘best offer in the country’, said they have not mellowed down their agitation and are still sticking to their demands. They are also approaching leaders from the opposition parties, such as BJP and Shiv Sena, to garner support for their agitation.
“We are firm on our stand that we will not let the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) project materialise, if our demands of cash compensation of Rs6.25 crore per hectare along with 35% developed plot are not accepted by the state government,” sarpanch of Pargaon, Mahendra Patil, said. When asked about the news about PAPs accepting the offer, Patil said, “Some people are spreading wrong information through media. In fact, we have decided to intensify our agitation and have taken some major steps to fight for our rights.”
