Ludhiana: After the DVOR started functioning at Sahnewal airport, people expected frequency of flights to and from the city to improve. But many flights have been cancelled even after the operationalization of the instrument.
DVOR or Doppler Very High Frequency Omni-Directional Range, is an instrument which reduces the visibility requirement for landing from 5,000 meters to 2,400 meters improving the chances of landing even during inclement weather when the visibility is low. Earlier, the lone flight operator, Air India, cancelled flights saying the visibility requirement of around 5 kms left them with no option but to cancel flights due to low visibility. But now that the DVOR is working, flights are still being cancelled and that too at a time when there is not much fog.
