Nagpur: The ambitious Mihan project may finally get land for airport expansion. The original plan called for having the cargo hub and expanded airport on 276 hectares currently occupied by Indian Air Force (IAF), just next to the existing airport. In lieu of it, IAF was to get 400 hectares over 2 kms away from the current base. However, both parties could not reach an agreement since late 1990s when Mihan was envisaged. There were complex issues to be resolved.
Now, during a meeting to discuss the status of infrastructure projects in the state, held at Prime Minister's residence, it was revealed that land swap deal has been agreed to in-principle. Tanaji Satre, vice-chairman-cum-managing director of Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), said a formal order was awaited. State chief minister Prithviraj Chavan was also present in the meeting.
