Madurai: After a long struggle, Spicejet's daily flight to Dubai will take off from Madurai Airport at 11.35pm on Friday night. This is the second international flight service to be launched, after the Mihin Lanka services between Madurai and Colombo launched last year.
The Madurai - Dubai flight will land in Dubai at 2.20am the following day and the return Dubai - Madurai flight will take off from Dubai at 3.50am and land in Madurai airport at 9.45am on Saturday. To mark this new flight service, a 36 member tour delegation from Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry will fly to Dubai on the launch flight and tour Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Cairo. The delegation will participate in the SIAL Middle East Food Processing Exhibition in Abu Dhabi later. They have also planned an interaction with Emirates Airways at Cairo to promote two-way tourism, said S Rethinavelu, senior president of the chamber.
The chamber has been persistent in its efforts to introduce direct flights from Madurai to Singapore, Malaysia, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait and other international destinations.
