Mumbai police want to stop guarding Juhu airport

Mumbai: Intelligence inputs have highlighted the vulnerability of Juhu airport, but the Mumbai police currently guarding the airport do not want to do the task anymore.
The city police have written to the ministry of civil aviation (MOCA) saying they want to withdraw their staff from the airport pointing out that the establishment, like airports elsewhere in the country, must be manned by the Central Industrial Security Force.
The letter that was sent a week ago by the protection and security branch of Mumbai police, points out that some pockets, like the ONGC operational area inside the airport, already have CISF cover.
"However, the sanctioned CISF cover for the airport couldn't materialise because of internal issues with the Airports Authority of India (AAI). Since then, we have been providing security at the airport. If CISF is providing security at other airports and even in parts of Juhu airport, we don't see on what grounds Mumbai police should provide security there," said a Mumbai police official.
