PM's nod to new airport in Pune raises business hopes

The PMO nod to the proposed Pune International Airport has raised the hopes of the business community and aviation sector. They are expecting that once operational, the international airport will rope in more businesses and also enhance Pune’s connectivity with international destinations.
Additional director general of Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) Anant Sardeshmukh, said, “A new international airport means expansion of export business as we will have more international connectivity. As on date more than 50 per cent of the cargo that is shipped from Mumbai goes from Pune. With the new international airport, we will have our own cargo terminal which will give more options and agriculture products will be easily exported to various international destinations.”
SK Jain chairman of civil aviation committee of MCCIA Pune, said, “The new airport will open the gateway (to several new possibilities) for Pune and adjoining cities. Passengers will not have to travel to Mumbai or Delhi to catch international flights. It will also have positive impact on the overall economic condition of Pune. Now with such connectivity, more companies will like to open their offices in Pune, Jain added.
