Mumbai: Two days after the Navi Mumbai airport project cleared the land acquisition hurdle, there is some more good news for Maharashtra on the aviation front.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday gave impetus to two other airport projects in the state.
After much deliberations, the site for the proposed Chakan airport near Pune was finally cleared during a meeting presided over by Singh in Delhi. The proposed airport, which is meant to cater to 60 million passengers annually, will come up on 1,268 hectares in the Chakan-Khed area.
Interestingly, about 800 hectares identified for the project has been acquired for a private SEZ project.
